To understand how to use the distributive law when expanding expressions.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
- I can use the distributive rule to multiply out the terms within brackets.
- I can simplify expressions by collecting like terms
EXERCISES FROM TEXT
Ex 2C: Fluency: 1, 2- 6(1/2),
Problem Solving: 8,10

The image above represents the process of multiplying the "a" outside the bracket, by the "b" to create "ab" and then multiplying the "a" by the "c" to get "ac"; hence the answer of ab + ac.

EXTENSION: EXPANDING DOUBLE BRACKETS USING F.o.i.l
When we are faced with two brackets to expand, we still use the Distributive Law, it is simply a lengthier process.
